It’s no surprise that blog posts are the most important aspect of a blog. With that being said, you have to take special care when writing blog posts to make sure your readers can enjoy your content without trouble.
It’s not just high quality writing that makes a good blog post. Blog posts must also look nice and be easy to read. If your blog posts are difficult to read, you’re going to have a hard time getting people to read them no matter how great your writing is.
There are a few different ways to you make your blog posts easier to read. These include using headings, using stylized text and adding photos to your post. You should also avoid large blocks of text by keeping your paragraphs short. Having a large font size will ensure that no one has to squint while reading your posts.
Keep reading for more details on how to make your blog posts easier to read…

Use headings
Headings are larger, bold text (just like the one above and throughout this blog post) that concisely describe the topic you’re about to talk about.
Headings are great for giving the reader an idea of what they can expect to see in your blog post. Readers can also use them to skip to the exact part of your blog post that they want to read most.
As the writer, you can use headings to emphasize the most important subjects in your blog post, then write the details covering that subject underneath it (like I’m doing in this blog post).
Italicize, bold and highlight text
When writing your blog posts, take advantage of the italicize, bold and highlight options as well as any other font style you think would be useful.
Doing so can help your main points stand out. What are the key takeaways in your blog post? What are the most important things your readers should understand?
Use italics to emphasize words or sentences, bold when your readers should pay special attention to certain points, etc.
Not only will using different font styles make important topics more clear, but it’ll also prevent your reader from getting bored of looking at plain text.
Just be careful not to overuse them, or else they’ll lose their impact and make your blog post look messy.
Break up long posts with photos
Long text posts can be quite overwhelming to look at, so it’s a good idea to use photos throughout your post to give your readers’ eyes a break.
Free stock photos of all different styles can be found on websites such as Pexels, Unsplash, Pixabay and more.
When you finish writing your blog post, scroll through it and take note of where a photo would help make it more aesthetically pleasing.
How many photos you add and where you add them will depend on many factors such as the overall structure of the blog post, the length, the subject and more. You may even end up writing a blog post that doesn’t look right with pictures at all, so use your best judgement when adding in photos!
Keep paragraphs short
Have you ever seen a super long comment or blog post with no formatting at all and thought “there’s no way I’m going to read all of this”?
…I’m not blaming you. No one wants to read a giant block of text.
A long block of text can look overwhelming and intimidating. Plus, it’s easy to lose your place while reading something with no formatting or spacing, especially on a screen.
To avoid this, simply keep your paragraphs short by starting a new line after a couple of sentences. 2-4 sentences per paragraph is usually good, though it depends on what you’re writing.
At times you may only want one sentence on a line. At other times, your paragraph may have to be more than 4 sentences. Always do what fits your blog post best, but try to keep most of your paragraphs on the shorter side.
Increase your font size
Your blog’s font size is a very important factor when it comes to readability.
A font size of at least 14 point is recommended.
I would NOT recommend going any smaller than 14 point font.
Some blogs use font sizes even bigger than 14 point. Personally, I think 14 point is large enough, but it’s completely up to you to decide what you like best.
If you’re unsure, consider asking your readers what they think. You don’t want anyone to be struggling to read your blog posts!
Final thoughts
The way your blog posts are formatted is just as important as how well it’s written, so keep readability in mind while blogging. I hope these tips help you make your blog posts more readable!
