Are you having trouble getting back into blogging after a hiatus?

I recently took quite a long break from my blog to work on other things and truthfully… It’s been harder to get back into the swing of things than I thought.

Us bloggers know there’s a lot that goes into maintaining a good blog, so it can definitely feel intimidating to start blogging after you haven’t done so in a while.

I know I’m not the only one who is having a hard time getting back into blogging after a hiatus, so here are a few tips I thought of that are sure to help anyone who’s in a similar predicament!

Do some behind the scenes stuff first

You may be overwhelmed when you first log into your blog after a long break. That’s completely understandable! You can easily combat your apprehension by doing small tasks to get started.

Have some old posts you want to edit? Spam comments that need deleting? Or maybe you can spruce up some of your past blog posts with new images or Pinterest graphics.

Doing the smaller, easier tasks will help you get used to being around your blog again and get you back into productive work mode!

REMEMBER: Try not to spend too much time doing small tasks or you might start using it as a way to avoid the “real” work. Use this tip to work your way into writing and uploading posts again, not procrastinate them!

Pick an easy blog post topic

Write about something that will come naturally to you. There’s no need to pick a topic that will require a lot of research when you’re just getting started up again.

I find that the easiest way to go about this is by picking a topic that’s personal to you or something that you’re very knowledgable about in your niche. Here are some ideas that may inspire you:

  • Share some beginner tips related to your blog’s niche
  • Share your favorite things about your blog’s niche
  • Write about a problem you recently had and how you solved it
  • Write about a success you recently had related to your blog’s niche
  • Give a personal update about yourself and your blog

P.S. You may also want to peek into your drafts to see if you already have something written that you can work on!

Don’t worry about word count

Sometimes it’s hard to forget the idea that every post needs to be an epic, 2,000+ word count. Remember… It’s YOUR blog and you can write how you want to!

If you need to put out a few shorter, 500 or so word blog posts to get back into the swing of things then go ahead and do it.

That being said, you should absolutely write to your heart’s content. Just don’t feel like you need to hit a certain high word count or you may be too intimidated to even start writing.

Kick your inner perfectionist out the door

You can let them back in later if you really want to 🙂

But for now, don’t get too caught up in making everything perfect. Perfect isn’t necessary, so just try to write something that you’re proud of. It’ll shine through your writing and your readers will be able to see it.

If you write something that you feel good about, you’re certainly on the right path.

Remember why you started your blog in the first place

Try to get that excited, fuzzy feeling about blogging back by thinking about why you started your blog in the first place. Did you start your blog because you wanted to share ideas and help people? Are you trying to become a full-time blogger?

What’s your motivation?

You may even want to journal about it. Jot down all the reasons why you love blogging and why you want to be a blogger. I guarantee doing this will make you want to jump straight back into blogging!
