So… I decided to start a printables business on Etsy! That’s super exciting, right?
I love Etsy. It’s so fun to shop around and see all the wonderful, creative things that people are making and putting out into the world. I’ve recently discovered the big world of printables and have decided to go ahead and join in with my very own printables shop.
For those of you who don’t know, printables are downloadable products that you can print off at home or at a printing shop and use.
There are tons of different kinds of printables. Some of the best selling printables include wall art, organization products (planners, calendars, habit trackers, password keepers, etc.), workbooks, games for events such as bachelorette parties or baby showers, cards/invitations and much, much more!
Why have I decided to start a printables business?
Two words… Passive income.
Actually, there are many reasons why I’m starting a printables business, but passive income is at the top of my list.
What is passive income, anyway?
Passive income is a cash flow earned from a source that requires minimal effort to maintain. In other words, passive income allows you to earn money even if you’re not actively working. Think owning a rental property, for example.
If you have a passive income source, you can earn money while you’re out with friends, on vacation or even sleeping!
I love passive income. It’s definitely my favorite way to earn money (and one of the main reasons why I love to make money through blogging so much).
Owning a printables business can be a great form of passive income
Here’s the great thing about printables: You never have to worry about shipping or running out of stock.
You make your printable, upload it to your shop, and that one printable can be sold forever without you needing to maintain it. Once it’s been purchased, the person who bought it can automatically download it without your assistance.
Of course, you do have to tend to your shop if necessary. Some customers may need help or have questions. But for the most part, customer service is pretty minimal.
This is the big reason behind why I’m going to start making and selling my own printables, but not the only one! Here are the other reasons why I’m starting a printables business:
There’s a big market for printables
People are looking for printables to purchase. Printable-related keywords are getting thousands upon thousands of searches per month. Check out this screenshot of the approximate monthly searches for printables:

I used a free tool called Keywords Everywhere to get this data
People are succeeding in selling printables.
But if tons of people are already succeeding in their printables business, doesn’t that mean the market is too oversaturated?
Nope!
The fact that there are a lot of people succeeding is a good thing. This means that the product has demand. We can get a piece of the pie too 😉
Printables make great freebies to offer to your blog readers
If you’re a fellow blogger, then you probably know of the importance of connecting with your readers and starting an email list. These two things are essential for growing a successful blogging business. Offering printables as freebies is a great way to both connect with your readers AND improve your email list.
You can offer free printables as a gift in exchange for having your readers sign up for your email list. Your readers will love receiving something useful for free, and you get more email subscribers!
Plus, if your readers like the freebie printable, they might decide to purchase your other printable products.
So, that’s another big reason why I want to start a printables business. Surely I’ll end up with some good printables that I decide not to put in my shop. I can offer those for free. Otherwise, I’ll have the skills to whip up some quick, beautiful printables thanks to the practice I get while stocking up my shop.
Another business = Another income stream
Who wouldn’t want multiple streams of income? In my opinion: the more sources of income, the better!
As a blogger and online entrepreneur, I find it very important and beneficial to have multiple ways to earn money.
Not only does it help increase my income, but it also provides a sense of security in the case that something goes wrong with another stream of income.
It’s fun and creative
I am a huge lover of creativity. The thought of making something beautiful and having other people enjoy it is very special to me!
I’ve already started practicing making my printables and I’m really enjoying the process of putting them together and seeing the final results. If you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life, right?
