A forever spotless home is attainable! Being someone who always has a clean home takes a little bit of effort at first, but it’ll become second nature over time.
The key to a spotless home is incorporating effective cleaning habits into your daily routine. Cleaning habits like having a quick cleaning session every day, giving everything a place and never letting things pile up will result in your home being spotless at all times. Good cleaning habits will also help kick feelings of overwhelm when tackling messes.
Here are 7 tips that’ll help you keep your home perfectly clean at all times:
1. Get the annoying things done first
Often, the annoying cleaning tasks are the ones that’ll have the biggest impact on how clean a home looks. Plus, the messes we find most annoying to clean can also be the ones that we really hate to look at!
Tackling these messes will not only improve the way your home looks, but your mood too.
So, get into the habit of doing those annoying tasks as early as possible. Whether that’s before your morning commute, before your shower, before dinner or whenever else. Just try to get it done first. You’ll thank yourself later!
2. Clean as you go along
While cooking, try putting away leftover ingredients right after you use them. After eating, don’t leave your dishes in sink. Wash them or put them into the dishwasher right away. After changing clothes, throw them into a hamper rather than leaving them on the floor. And so on!
Cleaning as you go along is a great way to prevent things from piling up or getting overwhelmingly messy.
3. If it takes less than a minute, clean it up
See an empty cup in the living room? Grab it on your way to the kitchen. Have a pile of books on a table that are all disorganized? Straighten them up.
You may feel like you have a lot of under-60-second cleanups to do, but you’ll find that you’ll have to do it less and less overtime. Eventually, it’ll turn into a habit and you’ll hardly even notice when you’re doing it.
4. Keep cleaning supplies in multiple places
Try to keep some cleaning supplies in every room (or most rooms) in your home. Choose supplies that you’re most likely to use in each room.
It’s easy to say you’ll head downstairs to get windex when you suddenly feel like cleaning the windows… but let’s face it. Sometimes the fact that the cleaning supplies you need isn’t in reach is enough to keep you from doing anything at all!
Here’s an extra tip if you don’t want to get extra cleaning supplies: When you’re planning on cleaning a certain area of the house, take the supplies you need to that room even if you’re not going to start cleaning yet. That way, everything will be prepared for when you’re ready to clean.
5. Give everything a place
If something doesn’t have a place, find it one! Keeping your home clean will be much easier if you always know where your items should go back to after they get moved.
If you have too much stuff laying around that you don’t want to get rid of, that’s a sign that it might be time to get more storage.
This simple dresser is a great, inexpensive solution for when you need more storage. I love this one particularly because it comes in so many different colors that can be matched to decor.
6. Set a timer and do a short cleaning session at the end of each day
Cleaning doesn’t have to take hours. At the end of each day, try setting a 10-15 minute timer and do a non-stop cleaning session until the timer goes off.
Even if you can’t get all your cleaning done before the timer stops, it’ll still help you maintain a spotless home. Something is better than nothing. Plus, using a short timer makes the idea of cleaning less intimidating.
7. Pick a podcast/audiobook that you only listen to while cleaning
This is a great tip for motivation. Find a certain podcast or audiobook that you LOVE but will only allow yourself to listen to while cleaning.
It’ll give you a good reason to start cleaning (besides the goal of having a clean home).
If you decide to listen to something while you clean, it’s best to use bluetooth earbuds like these or headphones like these so you don’t have to worry about getting tangled with wires.
P.S. If you’ve never tried Audible, I highly recommend giving it a try! I personally love listening to audiobooks while I get my cleaning done. You can get one free book with a 30-day free trial of Audible Plus by clicking here.
Incorporate these cleaning habits into your daily routine for a spotless home!
