You may be asking yourself; “I’m going to write my blog post anyway. Should I really put in extra effort into creating a blog post outline?”

The answer is YES! Making a blog post outline for each of your posts is one of the easiest ways to stay organized and get your work done efficiently.

The great thing about outlines is that they can be as simple or as in-depth as you want them to be. Either way, they’ll be a huge help during your writing process.

I’m going to show you how to create a very simple blog post outline that can be applied to just about any topic you want to write about. It can easily be adjusted to fit your needs.

A simple blog post outline should include the post’s title, an introduction, the main ideas you want to hit in your blog post as well as some notes about each idea, and a conclusion. Once you have this done, you’ll be able to write your blog post with ease.

You can create your outline on paper, in a document or even in your blog post editor (but I would recommend using paper or a document so you can reference it easily).

Alright, let’s get started!

First, start with a brain dump

This is optional but HIGHLY recommended!

A brain dump is when you write down all your thoughts and ideas on a certain topic without worrying about organizing them.

For your outline’s brain dump, write down everything you think you’ll want to include in your final post. No need to make it perfect! It doesn’t have to be pretty or in order.

Here’s an example. Let’s say you’re writing a blog post about how to organize a closet. Here are some things you might include in your brain dump: create a donate and keep pile, separate clothes by seasons, vacuum closet before putting stuff back in, get extra necessary storage, etc.

You can add as many ideas, notes and thoughts to your brain dump as you want.

Create your blog post outline

By referencing the brain dump you made, fit your ideas into an outline. Put everything in the right order, make adjustments, get rid of some ideas, add new ideas, etc. Here’s the structure you can use to create a simple outline:

“TITLE”

Introduction

  • Point 1
  • point 2
  • point 3

Main idea 1

  • Point 1
  • Point 2
  • Point 3

Main idea 2

  • Point 1
  • Point 2
  • Point 3

Main idea 3

  • Point 1
  • Point 2
  • Point 3

Conclusion

  • Point 1
  • Point 2
  • Point 3

For this outline, you’ll want to replace the “main ideas” with the main topics you want to talk about in your blog post. Then, replace the bullet points with notes that you want to expand on under each main topic as well as under the introduction and conclusion.

Feel free to adjust the outline structure to make it work for you. You may want less main ideas or more bullet points.

And there you have it! A super simple blog post outline that will help you get your posts written quickly and efficiently.
